What you can insure

What we insure: everything cancellation insurance applies to

We insure cancellation of anything you’ve booked or paid for in advance: a trip, a stay, an event, a course or a camp, in the Czech Republic or abroad, private or for work. The insurance is always taken out for that specific booking and covers its price. It costs 9% of the price, and you can insure up to CZK 500,000 online.

This page shows what you can insure. The reasons you can then cancel for (illness, injury, dismissal and others) are on the What the insurance covers page.

The condition

You can only insure what you’ve booked or paid for

You need a booking contract or a binding order for the service, or to have paid for it in advance — a deposit is enough. It doesn’t matter where you bought it: from a tour operator, through Booking.com or Airbnb, from the organiser, in advance sales or directly from the accommodation provider. You can’t buy the insurance on its own without a booking.

What the policy terms explicitly list

  • domestic and foreign trips, private and business
  • package holidays and independent trips
  • standalone flights
  • accommodation in a hotel, campsite, guesthouse or private accommodation
  • spa stays
  • summer camps and day camps, outdoor school trips and ski courses
  • language courses
  • tickets to cultural and sports events and similar services

You’ll find the exact wording in the policy terms and IPID.

What you can’t insure

What cancellation insurance doesn’t cover

  • Nothing without a bookingYou can’t buy the insurance on its own or “just in case”. It always belongs to a specific reservation, order or payment.
  • Cancellation by the organiser or carrierIf the organiser, tour operator or carrier cancels or changes the event, holiday or flight, they refund you. Cancellation insurance is for situations where you can’t go.
  • Goods and itemsCancellation insurance applies to services: trips, stays, events, courses and camps. You can’t use it to insure a purchase of goods.

When to buy it

By when to take out the insurance

If there are more than 30 days until the start, you can take out the insurance at any time, even for something you paid for earlier. 30 days or less before the start, only at the same time as paying for the service — that is, on the day of payment. It only covers events that occur after it’s taken out.
