Outdoor school trips

Outdoor school trip cancellation insurance

Parents pay the school for an outdoor school trip (škola v přírodě) in advance, often several months before departure. If your child falls ill, the school may only refund part of it, because it has already paid for accommodation and transport. You take out cancellation insurance as a parent for your child, and it reimburses the amount the school doesn’t refund after deducting the 10% excess. It costs 9% of the price of the stay.

  • 9% of the price, minimum CZK 26
  • If you cancel, cancellation fees back after deducting the 10% excess
  • Standalone, no travel insurance needed

Typical situations

When cancellation insurance comes in handy

  • Chickenpox before departure

The class leaves on Monday and your child has a rash on Friday. The doctor won’t let them go, and the school only refunds what it hasn’t paid out yet.

  • An injury at break time

A broken arm a week before departure. That rules out trips and games, and your child stays at home.

  • Going home halfway through

Your child falls ill during the stay and you have to collect them. For the unused days the school doesn’t refund, we reimburse a proportionate share.

  • A serious event in the family

Someone in your close family falls seriously ill or dies, and your child stays at home with you. The insurance covers that too.

Keep in mind

What to watch out for

  • How much the school refunds

Ask before you pay how much the school refunds if your child falls ill. The insurance only covers what you actually lose.

  • The parent is the policyholder

The insurance is taken out by an adult parent or legal guardian, and the child is the insured person. It’s always taken out for the specific outdoor school trip you’ve paid for.

  • Take it out when you pay

The insurance only covers illnesses and injuries that occur after it’s taken out. If there are 30 days or less until departure, you can only take it out at the same time as paying.

  • A replacement

If the school passes the place on to another child and refunds you, this reduces the loss. The insurance only covers the amount you don’t get back.

Questions

Insurance questions: outdoor school trips

All questions →
  • The parent. The policyholder is an adult parent or legal guardian, and you enter the child as the insured person. You insure the amount you pay the school for the outdoor school trip, and if your child falls ill, we reimburse what the school doesn’t refund after deducting the 10% excess.

    What the insurance costs →
  • It depends on the contract the school has with the accommodation provider or tour operator, and on what it has already paid. Part of the money, such as for meals, can be refunded; for accommodation and transport, the supplier’s terms may not allow it. Ask the school for written confirmation of how much it’s refunding — without it, the loss can’t be calculated.

    How cancellation fees work →
  • If the stay ends early because of illness or injury and the unused days can’t be refunded any other way, we reimburse a proportionate share of them. You provide a medical report and the school’s confirmation of how much it refunded. Cancellation insurance doesn’t pay for the journey to collect your child.

How to report a claim →
  • You can offer parents cancellation insurance right when they sign up. You’ll find out how the partnership works on the page for partners.

    For partners →
  • We reimburse the cancellation fees — the deposit paid in advance or the price the seller didn’t refund under its terms — after deducting the 10% excess. If you get nothing back for a CZK 2,000 ticket, you’ll receive CZK 1,800. If you cancel because the insured person is hospitalised or dies, no excess applies. Cancellation fees don’t include the premium, airport taxes or fees that can be recovered.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the trip starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. If you buy the trip 30 days or less before it starts, the insurance must be taken out at the same time as you pay for the trip. In all cases, it only covers events that occur after it is taken out.

Rules and examples with dates →
  • Among other things: a change of plans (you don’t want to go, you’re afraid, you don’t get time off work), health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out (except a stabilised chronic illness), events under the influence of alcohol or drugs, injuries during races and competitions, or a trip being cancelled by the carrier or organiser — in that case they refund you.
