Course and training cancellation insurance

Language stays, certification courses and weekend workshops are paid for in advance, and their cancellation terms are often strict. Cancellation insurance reimburses the cancellation fee after deducting the 10% excess if you can’t attend because of illness, injury, dismissal by your employer or another serious reason.

  • 9% of the price, minimum CZK 26
  • If you cancel, cancellation fees back after deducting the 10% excess

Typical situations

When cancellation insurance comes in handy

  • Dismissed before the course

Your employer unexpectedly lets you go, and an expensive course abroad suddenly makes no sense. The insurance covers this if the dismissal comes no later than 30 days before the start and you’re entitled to unemployment benefit.

  • Illness on the first day

An intensive week-long course starts on Monday, and on Sunday you have a fever. Without insurance, you lose the whole course fee.

  • An injury before a sports camp

A torn muscle or a fracture just before the training camp you’ve been looking forward to all year.

  • A family emergency

A serious illness or death in the family, or someone close you have to look after. The insurance also covers cancellation because of family members.

What the insurance covers

14 reasons to cancel

  • Caring for a sick family member

You have to look after someone close who isn’t travelling with you.

  • Confirmed pregnancy

A pregnancy confirmed after the insurance was taken out, where the doctor advises against travelling.

  • Death of a pet

    Your dog or cat dies.

  • Court, adoption or divorce

A witness summons, adoption or divorce proceedings during the trip.

  • Dismissal by your employer

You’re dismissed when you didn’t expect it.

Your documents are stolen in the last week before departure.

  • Victim of a crime

You or a family member become the victim of a crime.

Keep in mind

What to watch out for

  • Resigning yourself

The insurance only covers dismissal by your employer. If you end your employment yourself, it isn’t covered.

  • Course cancelled by the organiser

If the school or tutor cancels the course, they refund you. Cancellation insurance covers situations on your side.

  • Course paid for by your employer

If your employer is paying for the course, contact us before buying — we handle group and corporate insurance individually.

Stories

What it would look like in practice

Dismissed three weeks before a language course

    Martin, 31 · A four-week language course in Malta

Martin had planned a month of English in Malta. Three weeks before it started, his employer cut his position and gave him notice, which he couldn’t have expected when he booked. He had to cancel the course, and the school kept half the price under its terms.

Questions

Insurance questions: courses and education

All questions →
  • Yes. The insurance reimburses the amount the school or organiser actually charges you — whether it’s 20% or 100% of the course price — after deducting the 10% excess.

  • Cancellation insurance makes sense for courses with fixed dates where you lose the money if you cancel. With online courses that give you unlimited access, there’s usually nothing to lose.

  • Yes. Add up the course fee, accommodation and travel and insure the total (up to CZK 500,000).

  • We reimburse the cancellation fees — the deposit paid in advance or the price the seller didn’t refund under its terms — after deducting the 10% excess. If you get nothing back for a CZK 2,000 ticket, you’ll receive CZK 1,800. If you cancel because the insured person is hospitalised or dies, no excess applies. Cancellation fees don’t include the premium, airport taxes or fees that can be recovered.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the trip starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. If you buy the trip 30 days or less before it starts, the insurance must be taken out at the same time as you pay for the trip. In all cases, it only covers events that occur after it is taken out.

  • Among other things: a change of plans (you don’t want to go, you’re afraid, you don’t get time off work), health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out (except a stabilised chronic illness), events under the influence of alcohol or drugs, injuries during races and competitions, or a trip being cancelled by the carrier or organiser — in that case they refund you.
