Camps and ski trips

Camp and school ski trip cancellation insurance

Camps are paid for months in advance, and children always fall ill at the worst possible moment. If your child can’t go because of illness or injury, cancellation insurance reimburses the cancellation fee after deducting the 10% excess, or in full if they’re hospitalised. It costs 9% of the camp price and you buy it online.

  • 9% of the price, minimum CZK 26
  • If you cancel, cancellation fees back after deducting the 10% excess
  • Standalone, no travel insurance needed

Typical situations

When cancellation insurance comes in handy

  • Chickenpox, tonsillitis, a stomach bug

Children’s illnesses come out of nowhere, and the doctor won’t let your child go to camp. The organiser often keeps most of the price.

  • An injury in the playground

A broken arm a week before the ski trip means your child won’t be going — and the course fee is lost.

  • If a parent falls ill

A serious illness or injury in the family that means your child can’t go — the insurance covers that too.

What the insurance covers

14 reasons to cancel

In detail, including exclusions
  • Your illness, injury or death

You fall ill or get injured so that you can’t go.

  • Illness, injury or death of someone close

Family, a business partner, or the person you’re travelling with or staying with.

  • Caring for a sick family member

You have to look after someone close who isn’t travelling with you.

  • Confirmed pregnancy

A pregnancy confirmed after the insurance was taken out, where the doctor advises against travelling.

  • Death of a pet

    Your dog or cat dies.

  • Court, adoption or divorce

A witness summons, adoption or divorce proceedings during the trip.

  • Dismissal by your employer

You’re dismissed when you didn’t expect it.

  • Resit exam

A resit exam during the trip or shortly after it.

  • Car accident

The car you were going to travel in can’t be driven after an accident.

  • Stolen documents

Your documents are stolen in the last week before departure.

  • Victim of a crime

You or a family member become the victim of a crime.

  • Theft or damage at home

A burglary, robbery or major natural damage where you live.

  • Mandatory quarantine

A public health officer orders you into quarantine just before departure.

  • Natural disaster at the destination

A fire, flood or windstorm where you’re going.

Keep in mind

What to watch out for

  • Who buys it

The policyholder is always an adult parent or legal guardian, and you enter the child as the insured person.

  • Illnesses known in advance

Health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out aren’t covered — a stabilised chronic illness is an exception. That’s why it’s worth taking out the insurance as soon as you pay for the camp.

  • A replacement

If the organiser finds a replacement for your child and refunds you, this reduces the loss — the insurance only covers what you actually lose.

Klára’s parents paid for her summer camp back in the spring. A week before departure, she came down with chickenpox and the doctor wouldn’t let her go. Under its cancellation terms, the organiser refunded only 20% of the price.

Questions

Insurance questions: camps and ski trips

All questions →
  • Yes. You can insure up to 10 people in one order, such as siblings at the same camp. The premium is calculated from the total price.

  • The insurance policy number, the application form or proof of payment for the camp, the organiser’s confirmation of the cancellation stating the cancellation fee, and a medical report with the diagnosis and length of treatment.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the camp starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. But it only covers events that occur after it’s taken out — so take it out while your child is healthy.

  • We reimburse the cancellation fees — the deposit paid in advance or the price the seller didn’t refund under its terms — after deducting the 10% excess. If you get nothing back for a CZK 2,000 ticket, you’ll receive CZK 1,800. If you cancel because the insured person is hospitalised or dies, no excess applies. Cancellation fees don’t include the premium, airport taxes or fees that can be recovered.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the trip starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. If you buy the trip 30 days or less before it starts, the insurance must be taken out at the same time as you pay for the trip. In all cases, it only covers events that occur after it is taken out.

  • Among other things: a change of plans (you don’t want to go, you’re afraid, you don’t get time off work), health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out (except a stabilised chronic illness), events under the influence of alcohol or drugs, injuries during races and competitions, or a trip being cancelled by the carrier or organiser — in that case they refund you.
