Conference and corporate event cancellation insurance

Conference tickets, training abroad and team-building events cost thousands and are often non-refundable. Cancellation insurance reimburses the cancellation fee after deducting the 10% excess if the participant can’t attend because of illness, injury, a court summons or another serious reason.

Typical situations

When cancellation insurance comes in handy

  • Illness before a conference

The ticket, flight and hotel are paid for, but the insured participant falls ill. The insurance reimburses the non-refundable costs after deducting the 10% excess.

  • A court summons

A summons to appear in court as a witness (not as an expert witness) on the date of the event. A copy of the summons is all you need to provide.

  • A last-minute injury

An injury that makes it impossible to travel or sit through a full day at a conference.

What the insurance covers

14 reasons to cancel

You fall ill or get injured so that you can’t go.

  • Illness, injury or death of someone close

Family, a business partner, or the person you’re travelling with or staying with.

  • Caring for a sick family member

You have to look after someone close who isn’t travelling with you.

  • Confirmed pregnancy

A pregnancy confirmed after the insurance was taken out, where the doctor advises against travelling.

  • Death of a pet

    Your dog or cat dies.

  • Court, adoption or divorce

A witness summons, adoption or divorce proceedings during the trip.

  • Dismissal by your employer

You’re dismissed when you didn’t expect it.

A resit exam during the trip or shortly after it.

  • Car accident

The car you were going to travel in can’t be driven after an accident.

  • Victim of a crime

You or a family member become the victim of a crime.

  • Theft or damage at home

  • Mandatory quarantine

A public health officer orders you into quarantine just before departure.

  • Natural disaster at the destination

A fire, flood or windstorm where you’re going.

Keep in mind

What to watch out for

  • Work reasons

The insurance doesn’t cover cancelling for work reasons (“a new contract came in”, you don’t get time off). It only covers the reasons listed in the terms — and a business partner only in case of their illness, injury or death.

  • Group cover

Insuring a larger group of employees or a whole event? Write to us — we handle group insurance for companies individually.

  • Event cancelled by the organiser

If the organiser cancels the conference, they refund the ticket price. Cancellation insurance covers situations on the participant’s side.

Ondřej, 38, freelancer · A conference in Barcelona: ticket, flight and hotel

Ondřej paid for an industry conference himself. Three weeks before, he received a summons to appear in court as a witness, and the hearing fell on the first day of the conference.

Questions

Insurance questions: corporate events

All questions →
  • Yes. You take out the insurance for yourself just like for any other event — enter the price of the ticket and any related non-refundable services.

  • You can enter up to 10 people in one online order. For larger groups or insurance arranged by a company, write to us and we’ll prepare a tailored offer.

  • We reimburse the cancellation fees — the deposit paid in advance or the price the seller didn’t refund under its terms — after deducting the 10% excess. If you get nothing back for a CZK 2,000 ticket, you’ll receive CZK 1,800. If you cancel because the insured person is hospitalised or dies, no excess applies. Cancellation fees don’t include the premium, airport taxes or fees that can be recovered.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the trip starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. If you buy the trip 30 days or less before it starts, the insurance must be taken out at the same time as you pay for the trip. In all cases, it only covers events that occur after it is taken out.

  • Among other things: a change of plans (you don’t want to go, you’re afraid, you don’t get time off work), health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out (except a stabilised chronic illness), events under the influence of alcohol or drugs, injuries during races and competitions, or a trip being cancelled by the carrier or organiser — in that case they refund you.
