Festival cancellation insurance

Festival tickets go on pre-sale six months in advance — and anything can happen before summer. Cancellation insurance reimburses your ticket, camping and travel after deducting the 10% excess if you can’t go to the festival because of illness, injury or another serious reason.

  • 9% of the price, minimum CZK 26
  • If you cancel, cancellation fees back after deducting the 10% excess
  • Standalone, no travel insurance needed

Typical situations

When cancellation insurance comes in handy

  • Early bird in January, broken leg in July

A cheap ticket from the first pre-sale is great — until you break your leg in a casual football game with friends before the festival.

  • Tonsillitis a week before

Nobody goes for four days in a tent with a fever. The ticket, camping and travel would all be lost.

  • A resit exam during the festival

Summer resit exams coincide with festival season. If a resit falls on the festival or in the week after it, the insurance covers the cancellation.

  • When the group falls apart

Four of you are going and one falls ill? Insure everyone — the cancellation of anyone who can’t go for a covered reason is covered.

What the insurance covers

14 reasons to cancel

In detail, including exclusions
  • Your illness, injury or death

You fall ill or get injured so that you can’t go.

  • Illness, injury or death of someone close

Family, a business partner, or the person you’re travelling with or staying with.

  • Caring for a sick family member

You have to look after someone close who isn’t travelling with you.

  • Confirmed pregnancy

A pregnancy confirmed after the insurance was taken out, where the doctor advises against travelling.

  • Death of a pet

    Your dog or cat dies.

  • Court, adoption or divorce

A witness summons, adoption or divorce proceedings during the trip.

  • Dismissal by your employer

You’re dismissed when you didn’t expect it.

  • Resit exam

A resit exam during the trip or shortly after it.

  • Car accident

The car you were going to travel in can’t be driven after an accident.

  • Stolen documents

Your documents are stolen in the last week before departure.

  • Victim of a crime

You or a family member become the victim of a crime.

  • Theft or damage at home

A burglary, robbery or major natural damage where you live.

  • Mandatory quarantine

A public health officer orders you into quarantine just before departure.

  • Natural disaster at the destination

A fire, flood or windstorm where you’re going.

Keep in mind

What to watch out for

  • Cancelled because of the weather

If the organiser cancels the festival (a storm, an official ban), they handle refunds. Cancellation insurance is for situations where you can’t go.

  • Official resale

Some festivals offer ticket transfers or resale. If you use it, this reduces your loss.

  • Health problems known in advance

An illness or injury that existed before the insurance was taken out isn’t covered (except a stabilised chronic illness). Insure your ticket right after buying it, while everything is fine.

  • Original tickets

If you can’t go, send the original cancelled tickets to skody@colonnade.cz before the festival starts.

Stories

What it would look like in practice

  • Tickets and eventsExample scenario

A broken ankle a week before the festival

    Tomáš, 24 · 3-day festival ticket + a camping spot

Tomáš had a ticket for a summer festival and a spot at the campsite. A week before the event, he broke his ankle playing football with friends and ended up in a cast. The festival doesn’t refund tickets, and he didn’t manage to resell his at the last minute.

Questions

Insurance questions: festivals

All questions →
  • Yes. Add up the ticket, camping, parking and travel and insure the total. If you claim, you provide proof of what wasn’t refunded.

  • As soon as possible after buying — more than 30 days before the festival, you can take it out at any time. It only covers events that occur after it’s taken out; illness, injury or death up to 180 days before the event, other reasons in the last 30 days.

  • Yes. You can insure the ticket as well as flights and accommodation — the total price can be up to CZK 500,000.

  • We reimburse the cancellation fees — the deposit paid in advance or the price the seller didn’t refund under its terms — after deducting the 10% excess. If you get nothing back for a CZK 2,000 ticket, you’ll receive CZK 1,800. If you cancel because the insured person is hospitalised or dies, no excess applies. Cancellation fees don’t include the premium, airport taxes or fees that can be recovered.

  • If there are more than 30 days until the trip starts, you can take out the insurance at any time. If you buy the trip 30 days or less before it starts, the insurance must be taken out at the same time as you pay for the trip. In all cases, it only covers events that occur after it is taken out.

  • Among other things: a change of plans (you don’t want to go, you’re afraid, you don’t get time off work), health problems that existed before the insurance was taken out (except a stabilised chronic illness), events under the influence of alcohol or drugs, injuries during races and competitions, or a trip being cancelled by the carrier or organiser — in that case they refund you.
